Karen Shannon, Christian Education Director
As the Christian Education Director at First United Methodist Church it is my mission to organize and support educational programs and activities with the goal to make disciples for Christ. I am committed to providing quality programming for children, youth and also adults, as Christian Education is a lifelong experience. Opportunities will be offered to enrich our relationship with Christ and one another through youth and adult Sunday School, Youth Groups, Crazy 4 Christ, Vacation Bible School, short and long-term Bible studies, monthly intergenerational events, seasonal studies and more.
More specifically, in the coming months it will be my focus to implement J(esus) A(nd) M(e) which will take place four Friday mornings (9-11 a.m.) during June and July. We are really excited to be offering a Christian
Education opportunity for children PreK – 4th (entering grades) during the summer months to keep them connected to Christ and their faith! I will also be working to plan and organize the Wednesday afterschool programming for Fall 2012. Wednesday’s will be restructured due to school being dismissed at 1:45 every Wednesday. This will create a great opportunity for us to serve the children and youth at First United Methodist Church so they may continue to learn and grow as disciples of Christ. We welcome with open arms, hearts and minds all sorts of help with planning, dreaming and implementing our coming summer and fall programs. It is my belief that it “takes a village to raise a child” and together we will not only be raising children, we will be raising Christians who love their maker and each other. Please consider yourself invited to help, brainstorm and plan the exciting future of First United Methodist Church!
I am eager to be on this journey with you as followers of Christ. Feel free to contact me with any questions, ideas and thoughts. I look forward to talking with you and potential church members, so feel free to pass on names of friends, families and neighbors who would like to visit.
Blessings to you,
Karen Shannon
